Why is my pc not booting up after i downloaded 'windows xp service pack 3' from microsoft?
I have just done a system recovery and installed all microsoft updates' when i installed service pack 3, windows would not start so had to restore in safe mode, now this update is still hanging waiting to be installed. Is it critical for my pc to install this? Don't want it to crash again!! Any suggestions would be great.

I don`t think it`s critical, I would ignore the update for a few days, and see how it runs in normal mode. If all is ok try installing again, at least if it goes wrong again you will know that it is definitely the update that is causing the problem. It could just be a coincidence.
If it happens again, could you not just remove the update in safe mode?(I`m afraid I don`t know much about safe mode, as I`ve never had to use it.)
